History of New Orleans Yacht Experience
Native New Orleanians Doug and Rena headed for the island of Tortola to find their dream boat. And now they want to share her with you in this enchanting city they call home.
Come aboard our 47 foot Beneteau sailboat, “Roux Stir,” named for the key ingredient of a delicious, heart-warming gumbo.
Cruise Director, co-owner and the wife of Captain Doug, Rena is a certified yoga and Pilates instructor, who finds sailing to be refreshing and cathartic… the ultimate escape from the monkeys of the mind. “Sailing takes you away from your problems. You’re in the moment, breathing more fully, with all of your senses alive. It is meditation on the water.”
We love our city for all of its charms, friendly folks and fabulous food. Our family and friends are here, and for us there is no place like home. To be able to share this aspect of New Orleans on Lake Pontchartrain is truly a treat.
Come sail with us and see where the wind takes you.
First Mate Margaret has been sailing in Lake Pontchartrain since she was a toddler. She is a US Sailing Certified Instructor and teaches children ages 8-13 how to sail. She is currently enrolled in the LSU School of Nursing. You may find Margaret aboard Roux Stir helping out when she has some downtime.
Captain Doug and his lovely wife Rena greeted my family and I aboard with grace and enthusiasm. Tasty snacks and drinks were offered immediately, setting the tone for what was to become an unforgettable first time experience for my whole family, which included our precocious 4 year old, his 70 year old Grandma, and my husband. Needless to say, our experience on their yacht was a relaxing ride for the whole family. The yacht itself is a beautiful piece of work; my husband noting the fine details found within. There were others onboard but it did not feel cramped at all, with plenty of space and seating to enjoy the Lake views. Our hosts were engaging and looked after our needs in the short time we spent aboard. Thank you Captain Doug and Ms. Rena for sharing your yacht with my family! I’d take a ride on the yacht again in a heartbeat.
An invigorating detour from the well-trodden tourist paths of New Orleans.
Such a rush! I have never been sailing before, and I was a bit apprehensive, as I have gotten motion sickness in the past. Captain Doug and Rena made me feel so at ease, giving me some safety tips and offerening me fresh ginger in case I felt sea sick. And as soon as we set sail, I felt calm and at peace. Thankfully, no sea sickness! This was such a cool experience. Everyone should try it!
